If you're not already aware, the fashion industry is the second most polluting industry on earth. Tis true! Our obsession with buying cheap clothes is insatiable and globally it's getting worse according to new studies. We found this great video by the economist summing up the numbers and which companies are taking action. Video below.
While individual companies are making ripples in this $380 billion dollar industry, it's simply not enough. Everyone can play a small role in helping reduce the volume of waste we produce. No single company or person will or can solve this problem. Collectively anything is possible and here at M-24 HQ we want to help prolong the lifecycle of existing materials by transforming them into useful, durable and aesthetically mad products.
What can you do to make a difference? Here's our top tips.
Take a moment when buying clothes. Ask yourself "Do I need this?" You could save some money too.
Keep track of how many times you wear certain items. It might be cheaper to rent clothes from companies like: Rent the Runway. For example, if you wear a jacket 25 times but it cost you £100 to buy. = £4 per use.
Who are you buying clothes from? Consider how, where and who made it. Can they repair it? Companies like Patagonia are championing the longevity of clothes by repairing them FOC.
Can you repair damaged clothes? There are many talented repair shops around the country and you'll be surprised how affordable it is to repair something damaged. If you take several items at once you might get a better price too.
Simply buy less but higher quality. Reselling a higher quality item could also help ease the next cash purchase too.
M24 bags are designed from recycled truck tarpaulin. Each bag we make is totally unique because of the variety of lorry curtains (truck tarps) we collect. We're always uploading new products so be sure to check back.
